Hmm…about me, well, I am always and never the same, which makes for my own interesting world where I constantly recruit individuals to join my planet. Take myself very seriously, but prefer not to, so I dress in outfits that often do not match and say things that I shouldn’t under the guise of ...

My Week in Review

Monday, June, 30, 2008

I tend to do a day’s end review (where I mentally go over everything that has happened in the day, and get prepared for the next one) and by the next week I don’t always recall (or try to forget) things that happened in the previous week.

Every once in awhile I’d like to have more time to get “this” or “that” done during the day, but praying/meditating in the morning has helped me to better pace my days as I look at my week in review. I’m amazed at all of the “experiences” from last week. I had just enough time, and am surprised by all of the ups and downs that occurred, all squeezed into one week.

To protect the not-so-innocent, the chronological order of events have been changed, but take a look:

1) Managing travel itineraries for almost 300 INROADS student participants for an upcoming event. Completely impressed with these bright students and being overly delighted for them has helped me not to chuck my computer out the window since I’m inundated with e-mails from them. Note: 300 participants.

2) Tried to get media coverage for a local homeless shelter and band. By week’s end learned that the shelter had raised the remaining $12K necessary for repairs. No band coverage.

3) BUT, while I didn’t get coverage for the band regarding the homeless shelter benefit concert  – I was able to secure a spot for them on a radio program in two weeks!

4) Got a parking ticket. This is not to be filed under “accomplishments” – but I now know that when it says: “No parking beyond this point,” – it counts if you have only a foot of the butt of your car over that line. Sheesh!

5) Had a tasty Mexican lunch date with two very cool ladies, and snagged a book of PMS.

6) Met with a super sharp negotiator regarding a top secret fashion project. (OK, not so secret, but I didn’t want to out this project with such an informal intro – as in, no background, etc. but I shall give a more formal introduction in the future – time-permitting, regarding its history, background, purpose, players, etc. Until then – enjoy the sneak peak). Anyway, this negotiator left the team’s head spinning – she was good! Note to self: Brush up on persuasion skills.

7) Had a potential freelance client ask me my age, in an effort to screen my capabilities I’m imagining. I smiled and responded, but in hindsight, I kind of wish  I provided a witty response instead. I experienced a heightened awareness of my “womanness,” as I doubt he would’ve asked that question had I been a man.

8) Feeling the repercussions of my assistant not being able to assist me anymore. (Still not entirely clear what happened...welcome to corporate).

9) Met with four gentleman to discuss utilizing their building space for an event. Strange meeting, where one gentleman asked the type of shirt I had on. Again, not sure he would’ve done this had I been a man...

10) Met with the brilliant Regional Executive Director for eWomen Network, Karen Krymski at one of my personal offices around town, Panera Bread. (I think I should have acquired stock ownership in Panera and Starbucks by now).

11) Picked up DVDs on golfing from the local library. I plan to go pro before the end of the summer. (Kidding of course, but it’s fun to dream.)

12) Watched the movie, Atonement. (Whole other blog entry – WOW!)

13) Dinner with our couple friends at a sports bar. All girl dinner at a sushi spot – yum! And client shared his surprise dinner plans for the holiday weekend with his wife.

14) And the very best part – wonderful conversations with my husband, Lenny, with lots of kisses and hugs spread out through the week. (Sappy, mushy, love-love, I know – sorry!)

Likely won’t ever blog about my week in review again (too much recapping) but despite the less than pleasant or strange moments, I’m feeling very blessed and grateful! : )

Hope that you all enjoy your week!
