Hmm…about me, well, I am always and never the same, which makes for my own interesting world where I constantly recruit individuals to join my planet. Take myself very seriously, but prefer not to, so I dress in outfits that often do not match and say things that I shouldn’t under the guise of ...

Where have I been?

Wednesday, June, 25, 2008

I’ve done the MySpace thing for clients and projects, but I do not have a personal MySpace account. It’s just too much time, trouble and maintenance for me to make a personal page – just can’t deal right now.

Every once in awhile though I’ll hop online for client’s who have MySpace accounts and poke around. This time in my searching I found links to several “mixed race” profiles. There were some mixed race groups I was already aware of like Swirl and the Loving Conference (Whatever happened to the conference? Hope it’s still going on!), and then cool ”mixed race” products like the shampoos and conditioners from Mixed Chicks.

What I was not expecting was all of these random “mixed race” pages for things like Multiracial Apparel, Mix Together and Mixed Chicks Chat. I can’t even begin to tell you how excited I was – like being at a 75% off sale! It was like I re-discovered my tribe, my people! I’ve had this feeling before stumbling across various things or sometimes not even stumbling, but having those “clear” moments. I was just excited that there were so many options, groups and opportunities for people of mixed race to connect, relate and share. WOW! And then I thought about what my stylist’s assistant said – maybe we are taking over! : )

Taking over or not, finding all of these mixed race experience pages really got me thinking about how some things I’m just forever passionate about. Even if I’m not as active as I used to be in the mixed race movement, seeing other people passionate about their experiences and sharing them with others is so cool to me!

There are things that just make me immensely happy and make me smile, for instance: special moments with God, kissing my husband, hugging and talking to my mom and dad, writing (notes, letters, whatever!), roller skating, 75% off sales, and clearly groups taking part in the mixed race experience! Those are a few of the things in the world that just do it for me!

What are things that make your heart skip a beat when given an opportunity to do or experience them?

I too share a passion, but I haven't acted on it. My personal passion is animal rescue and adoption and have always vowed to make the time to volunteer my time, but I've just never done it. I've committed resources, I've even helped out with a few events on occasion, but nothing really displaying my true compassion and dedication to the cause, you know? I so respect and admire people who make personal sacrifices in their own lives and homes to rescue and foster abandoned animals. It can't be easy. Every time I read a story or hear about someone doing one tiny thing with extraordinary results, I get that pitter-patter at the thought of what it means for the lives of these animals. Sigh. If only I took real action...
