I won’t bore you with a play-by-play of my Sex and The City premiere weekend, but to make a long story short...I had FUN!
I think I may have hyped it up a bit too much, which made me wish for a 10+ hour movie instead of a 2.5 hour movie. The clothes, shoes and style, as expected, were fabulous! But I need more, more, more detail and background information from my girls Carrie, Miranda, Samantha and Charlotte. Not that a whole lot of info was given during the series, but it was more difficult to see lack of detail on the big screen. I won’t spill all the juicy details or ruin the film for those who haven’t seen it, but it’s hard to imagine that an inquisitive, articulate, intelligent woman wouldn’t ask the “who, what, when, where, how and why” when her husband admits to being unfaithful, or that a five-year relationship ends with a two-minute, peaceful dialogue and much understanding. Heavy issues, too little time. My girlfriend said I was basically asking for a WAY longer movie...that makes me smile – of course, I was!
This
blog isn’t about SATC though – it’s about my budget and shoes. I have
survived and am entering week four of my PITA (pain-in-the-aaahh my
head hurts) budget. I haven’t purchased anything I can wear, and I have
been on the hunt for anything – ANYTHING – cost efficient that can be hung in my closet.
Well, during the SATC premiere-hype last week, news went out regarding the SATC stylist Patricia Field’s shoe line for Payless Shoe Source. She actually started designing shoes under the Payless brand last year when she designed a pair to wear on the red carpet to the 79th Annual Academy Awards. The SATC movie premiere, was another reason to just mention Patricia’s shoes.
I can’t remember the last time I was in a Payless, and not because I don’t like inexpensive shoes, but I try to stay away from heels and pumps that make my feet hurt or LOOK like they may make my feet hurt. Check out two current designs from Patricia’s line:
The
second pair are cute, really dig the gold heel. And I enjoy the
electric turquoise, but is it me – or do those look like they’d hurt?
See...Manolo’s and Jimmy Choo’s – they don’t look
like they hurt. Correction, to me they look like they’d hurt the bank
account – but not the delicate feet.
“In-budget and possibly painful” versus “not-in-budget and not so painful.” In my experience, sometimes the discomfort and pain has to do with the quality of the shoe. I haven’t seen Patricia’s Payless brand in person or tried them on, I’ve only seen pics and according to the stylist the quality is just as good as Manolo’s. (What else would she say though, huh?)
Anyway,
I think it’s great that a top name designer/stylist is making shoes
for a brand whose name revolves around “paying less”, as I believe
Sarah Jessica Parker’s manifesto for her Bitten clothing line: “It is every woman’s inalienable right to have a pulled-together, stylish, confident wardrobe with money left over to live.” (My own manifesto ends with: “...with money left over for Sephora visits, spa treatments and margaritas.”)
But when it comes to certain items, I’m not sure if it’s worth the risk. Granted, Jimmy Choo’s are in a price range that some would have trouble spending in (me for one), but when it comes to shoes – quality, comfort and style – I’ve heard, “You get what you pay for.”
What are your shoe thoughts?
While the Manolos set me back a pretty penny and I know I can afford more than one pair, I can't bring myself to buy any shoes at Payless. It's not because I don't appreciate a bargain. I get BCBG and Guess at Marshalls for under $30 all the time. I think it's because at the heart of it I don't like Payless. I used to buy my shoes there when I was in middle school because I had an addiction even back then and couldn't afford more. And they were always cheaply made and hurt my feet! Maybe it's better there now, but I just can't bring myself to do it.
Stylishly yours,
