Mantra for a Short Workweek

Tuesday, May, 27, 2008

I promised I wouldn’t bring home work this weekend. And I didn’t. (The life-balance proponents in my world are cheering with glee right now.) Unfortunately, with this solid decision that I stuck by like a trooper comes consequences. Far too much crap to complete in a four-day workweek.

But I am calm, I am relaxed, I  am very well-rested and did I mention that I am feeling pretty darn good? Yet as I pull out my calendar this morning, I am reminded of all that is here ahead of me this week: five days work crammed into – gulp – four days. Oy.

No, I won’t let it sweep away this breezy, beachy let-it-roll-off-my-back vibe that’s come over me. I can’t let it sweep it away. It’s taken me far too long to remember how to relax again!

Bite-size. I will take each item one at a time. I will break each project down into digestible morsels until I’m able to clean my plate. Or leave it on the floor for the dog to finish.

I will not let appointments, required meetings or commitments I set weeks ago on a whim blur my shiny new focus or set me off this pleasant path of peaceful deadline completion and closure.

Eye on the prize, eye on the prize. Friday looms in the distance...just 32 office hours away. (Okay, who am I kidding...probably more like 40 or 45)

I have come to work today. I have seen my calendar. And dammit, I will conquer.

the short week thus far - only one more day left! Everything's a blur since Tuesday, but I've finally come up for air this late Thursday afternoon. We must all follow the mantra and survive short workweeks in an effort to acquire more! : ) Looking forward to Friday, and the fact that it's SATC Friday makes it even more grand!
