There aren’t a whole lot of things that surprise or shock me anymore, not because I’ve seen it all – but because I’m just not that easily surprised or shocked. I do tend to be easily annoyed. Especially during bouts with PMS – the regular kind, not the Problems Men Started, but the ones caused by a visit from that one Aunt.
According to my friend, Keme, the thing about being annoyed is that “annoying can’t be fixed.” Keme would say that when a person becomes annoyed, there’s typically not much that can be done to alleviate the feeling of annoyance. Well, this “annoying can’t be fixed” Keme-fact holds true for the one thing that’s really peeving me right now – which is the price of gas. There is absolutely nothing I can do about it, and the price of gas is just chipping into my shoe fund. *#&$^!!
Seriously, what’s the solution for this outrageous issue of $4.10/gallon for gas? Perhaps fill up with a lesser grade and have your car break down? Skip work so you can’t pay for gas...or any other bills? Maybe sell your house in this great housing market and move closer to your job?
I have the advantage of working remote for much of my job, but trips to meetings, appointments, the store, occasional visits to the office, etc. have a way of depleting the gas fund. And don’t think I’m not committed to making as few trips as possible, I biked to the grocery store along a major busy road. Something I will not be doing again because...I’m not stupid...twice. I only need to be scared once by cars going by me driving 60 mph.
I’m determined to rid myself of annoyance. Since I am not able to annihilate my annoying gas price problem, I’ve decided that I will fill up twice a week when my car is at a quarter or half a tank, instead of waiting until it’s empty to fill up and experiencing a minor shock (I admit the price for filling up can be a little shocking for even one who is not easily shocked). And I shall carpool whenever I can...even if I have to hop in the car with strangers.
What are you doing to survive these outrageous gas prices?
How does the serenity prayer go.. God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference.
