Sally Moorehead | Int'l Student Counselor

Sally knows firsthand what it’s like to be a stranger in a strange land. Before arriving in Valrico, the University of Tampa Assistant Director of International Programs moved 13 times in 18 years while husband Jim served in the military. She says the opportunity to live abroad helped her empathize with the nearly 500 international college students she supports every day. “I don’t think anyone really appreciates just what these students go through to attend school here,” she says. The nature of Sally’s counseling role, however, has changed over the past 20 years, with growing emphasis on immigration authorizations and other reporting requirements. But the Valrico wife, mother and grandmother is as strong a proponent of international travel as ever. “Living abroad changes you. It opens your eyes to become a more tolerant person,” she says. “If everyone could experience the rest of the world firsthand, it would change the world completely.”
