Doug moved to South Tampa 10 years ago to continue his successful corporate law career. But by late 2006, the Atlanta native and father of a 7-year-old son decided to retire and pursue a lifelong interest in performance vehicles. This pursuit soon grew into a partnership and development of an independent auto repair and maintenance facility, Vortex Motorsport (vortexmotorsport.com). Female friends and colleagues frequently pointed out to Doug their discomfort and distrust each time they visited their mechanic. “I wanted to help women feel more empowered and confident by providing free information about basic car maintenance,” Doug says. He held his first women’s car care clinic in early 2008 and received great attendance and positive feedback. A second clinic is planned for May 3. Attendees will be able to leave donations for Wheels of Success, a local non-profit organization that makes transportation available to lower-income working families for travel to and from their jobs, schools and doctors.
It’s a great way to find out what issues are of particular significance to women.
It’s strangely exhilarating!
