viewsFeb 12 Mini-skirts
By Chris.Kuhn, Thursday, February 12, 2009Back by popular demand, more tasty morsels on the local front that I like to call mini-skirts... Met up with some familiar faces and friends of skirt! at today’s Cup of Compassion Breakfast Fundraiser for the Crisis Center of Tampa Bay and have I got some good stuff for you!
Nibble where you wish and dig in where you’re hungry for more...enjoy!
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
- Merrill Stewart, marketing coordinator for The Children’s Home, is excited about the grand opening of their first thrift store Charlie’s Treasures at Twelve Oaks Plaza in Town N Country. Their grand opening celebration is Feb. 28 from 10am-2pm and is open to the public!
- Ran into Susan Jacobs, founder of Wheels of Success, who was featured in our September issue of skirt! It was great to chat with her and she said they’re hard at work getting two fundraisers planned – one Mar. 13 at Tampa Bay Downs and their annual R.A.C.E. lunch fundraiser Apr. 24 (Great event – I went last year!)
- it was sooooo cool to see so many wonderful people like Susan who’ve previously appeared in skirt! under one roof at today’s event like businessman Greg Todd of the Bullioneers, pop artist Katy Alderman and Shelby Coriaty of UCH’s Breast Care Center. I always say you meet the nicest people at Higgins Hall!
- Finally got an opportunity to meet Ernest Hooper, columnist for the St. Pete Times, a favorite frequenter of mine on Florida This Week. .I’ve been especially enjoying his contributions on the Brand Tampa site.
- In other skirt! news...just heard about an upcoming event from previous “I’m a Male Feminist...” profile Marc Rocquemore of New Identities Hair Salon. They are hosting the 5th Annual Valentine’s Day Makeover during the Valentine’s Day weekend which benefits residents of The Spring of Tampa Bay,Alpha House and Martha and Mary House. Marc says the event is designed to life their spirits and raise their self esteem, and calls it one of the most rewarding things they get to do each year. Great work, Marc!
- Learned today from skirt! publisher Nikki Hardin that apparently skirt! has officially made the Buzz Board on the Daily Beast. And that my friends is called making the big time.
- I should know more by Monday but there’s a particularly cool gent who’s a well established fella in the Tampa Bay music and online community and he just might be gettting into a skirt for me very soon. More on this very soon!
- Remember when you’re celebrating Valentine’s Day this Saturday it’s also the 11th anniversary of V-Day, dedicated to stopping violence against women. Find out what you can do to help other women break this cycle.
- And don’t forget to stop by the Sip & Shop event being held at Southern Grace in Ruskin, In fact, I’m running late and better scoot! The skirt! team will be there tonight from 5:30-7:30pm. See you there!
